Lot Description

A late medieval gold amatory ring, circa 1400 to 1500. Engraved with a series of crossed heart motifs, the script spacers spelling out i e a d o r e ('Je adore'). The amatory inscription suggests this may have been a marriage ring. An amatory ring is a variation on the more commonly known posy (or posey) ring. Portable Antique Scheme Treasure Case number: 2005 T158. Unique ID: WAW-F2CA07. Width 4mms. Approximate ring size N1/2. Weight 1.5gms.
