Lot Description

An Edwardian silver twin-handled cup, of plain circular form to a footed base with twin scroll handles and personal engraving to one side, hallmarked London 1907, maker's mark possibly Charles Boyton & Son Ltd, maximum width inclusive of handles 7 1/8 inches (18 cm). Together with a silver pepper, of bulbous form with flower and bow garlands, hallmarked Chester 1899, a small continental pin tray with initial engraving marked 800, two silver lids one with hammered decoration, hallmarked Birmingham 1901 and 1933, a set of six continental toddy cups with niello decoration, two continental boxes, plus a large selection of silver plated items to include various goblets, candlesticks, trophy cups, egg cups, etc. Gross weighable silver 18.7 ozt (584.5 grams).

In varied state, all items in the lot displaying general wear, surface scratches, marks and tarnishing in keeping with their age or use and to varying degrees. The twin-handled cup is heavily tarnished with significant compression and bend to the foot causing it to wobble and tilt to one side. Further dents and bumps to the rim causing slight distortion to the shape. Maker's mark and standard mark heavily worn, possibly Charles Boyton & Son Ltd, other hallmarks rubbed but still legible. Dents and bumps to the pepper, green residue to the surface. Maker's mark rubbed possibly James Deakin & Sons Ltd (John & William F Deakin), other hallmarks clear and legible. Continental pin tray engraved with 'P G', marked 800 'Comm Galbiat Milano' and additional mark rubbed. Hammered silver lid with vacant cartouche, smaller lid slightly mis-shaped, hallmarks clear and legible on both. Continental boxes with hinged lids, engraved foliate decoration, both with loops for attachments. One toddy cup at fault, foot detached from body.
