Lot Description

A tortoiseshell etui case of slightly tapered octagonal form, inlaid decoration of stylised floral and foliate motifs and hinge opening to reveal engraved initials, missing contents, height measuring 2 3/4 inches (7 cm). Together with a further tortoiseshell case of slim, tapering outline, possibly for sewing accessories and also with floral inlaid decoration, height measuring 4 inches (10.2 cm). (2).

Both pieces display some general wear, surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Some general fading and losses to inlay. The etui case has a number of chips to the tortoiseshell, mainly around edges and including a large chip just below the main rim. Some minor cracks. Hinged cover appears in good working order, although the pin is sticking out on one side. Some damage to interior lining. Missing contents. The lid on the other case is quite a loose fit.
