Lot Description

A pair of George III silver-gilt open salts with clear glass liners, of oblong form having floral decoration framing a vacant cartouche and quartered by fluted corners, raised upon a footed base, hallmarked London 1812, length measures 3 4/8 inches (9 cm). Together with a pair of early Victorian silver-gilt Kings pattern condiment spoons having initialled terminals, hallmarked Charles Lias, London 1837. Gross weight exclusive of liners 7.0 ozt (217.8 grams).

The salts appear in fair condition commensurate with age and use displaying general wear and tarnishing to gilding and light rubbing to embossed decoration. The embossed decoration of possibly later. Glass liners each with minor chips to rims. Hallmarks are legible although maker's marks are worn and so not visible to one and only partly to the other. Spoons each with heavy rubbing and losses to gilding, and with general scratches and wear to bowls, hallmarks are clear and legible.
