Depicting Daniel Eaton and his wife, each depicted in half-length three-quarter profile before a dark oval ground

Daniel Eaton (d.1742) was steward to George Brudenell, third Earl of Cardigan (1685-1732). Eaton's letters to the Earl have been published in 'The Letters of Daniel Eaton 1725-1732', ed. Joan Wake and Deborah Champion Webster, where the portrait of Daniel Eaton is illustrated beside title page with caption 'Artist Unknown'. The portraits have previously been ascribed to the Dutch artist Herman van der Myn (Mijn).

Condition Report
Each appears in overall sound condition displaying expected signs of wear and age, however she has a small area of possible paint loss and repainting below her nose. His canvas was made in two sections and has a very slight horizontal line noticeable in the light, the join of which can be seen verso. He also has an area of thicker paint to forehead. Neither canvas is relined and is in original condition with original stretcher and frame. Each canvas with general superficial crazing to paint surface. Both appear to have been cleaned some years ago.
Frames are in fair condition with minor cracks and flake losses to mouldings. Her label verso is depleted to each end.
