Lot Description
A late Victorian gold and silver split pearl, sapphire, ruby and diamond insect brooch, circa 1880. Comprising a split pearl thorax, abdomen and circular ruby cabochon eyes, with oval-shape sapphire, ruby and rose-cut diamond wings. Length 3cms. Weight 8gms.

<li>Overall condition fair. Surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and dents in keeping with general age and wear.
<li>replacement catch fitting.
<li>Discolouration visible to the reverse of the brooch and settings
<li>Diamonds fairly well matched.
<li>Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight estimation.
<li>Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.<p>
<li>Cracks and blemishes visible to some split pearls.
<li>Sapphires and rubies are well matched.
<li>Cabochon rubies have a weaker saturation of colour, typical inclusions visible with magnification.
<li>Stones in fairly good condition, with some surface abrasion, small chip visible to one of the rubies.
