Lot Description
A late Victorian silver box, the oval form with beaded rim and heavily embossed with floral, bird and scroll motifs, the hinged lid depicting a scene of two mythical figures with wings and mermaid tail, hallmarked Lambert & Co (George Lambert) over stamped possibly with HS?, London 1884. Maximum width measures 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm), weight 8.5 ozt (265.9 grams).

Condition Report
In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The push button mechanism is present but not functioning, in need of repair, lid does not sit fully flush. Loss of definition and rubbing to the embossed decoration, with some minor dents and bumps. The base is marked with 'Lambert Coventry St London' alongside hallmarks which are clear and legible apart from the maker's mark is over stamped possibly with 'HS?', also indistinct on the lid.
