Lot Description

A pair of late Victorian silver open salts with frilled rim, gadrooned and embossed with foliate and scroll decoration, hallmarked Josiah Williams & Co (George Maudsley Jackson & David Landsborough Fullerton), London 1898, width measures 5.2 cm. Together with a silver mustard pot, hallmarked Charles Perry & Co., Chester 1921, a silver salt and pepper of plain tapered form, hallmarked Lionel Smith & Co., Birmingham 1927, a pair of small singular bud vases, hallmarked J B Chatterley & Sons Ltd., Birmingham 1984, two silver retractable cigar piercers, hallmarked William H Manton (Birmingham Gold & Silversmiths Ltd), Birmingham 1977 & 1989, a silver mounted scent bottle, etc. Gross weighable silver 6.6 ozt (207.6 grams).

In fair condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some loss of definition to the decoration on the salts, small bump to the base. The bud vases have filled bases, slight distortion to the lipped edge on one. The base of the salt is split away from the body, in need of repair. Blue glass liner present in mustard. Glass stopper present in scent bottle, inner crack to the cut-glass. Both cigar piercers appear in good working order. Continental salt has glass liner, marked 800 M, small pepper marked 925, set of five spoons marked 835, singular spoon marked 925, small condiment spoons with various hallmarks. All hallmarks clear and legible with minor rubbing to maker's marks.
