Lot Description
A late Victorian 9ct gold double sovereign case, of plain oblong form having engraved initials to the hinged cover, opening to the dual apertures for full and half sovereigns, hallmarked Birmingham 1896, length measures 2 3/8 inches (6 cm). Together with a similar silver memorial example, having a concealed and hinged compartment to the inside cover, opening to reveal an oval portrait under glass, possibly Edwardian, part hallmarks visible, possibly William Neale & Sons, Chester 1901. (2).

Condition Report
The gold example is in fair condition although with general scratching to surface and few light crease marks, the hinge is in working order and sovereign holders with minor distortion and one is slightly loose, hallmarks are clear and legible. Silver example is in poor condition with heavy wear, scratching, tarnishing and few dints, the hinge and interior are in fair condition with wear and tarnishing, gilding and glass to concealed compartment with minor wear, hallmarks are worn and partly distorted with no town mark visible.
