Lot Description

A Victorian silver christening mug, the cylindrical form monogrammed and decorated in Aesthetic style with bird, dragonfly, butterflies and foliage, above a beaded foot rim. Hallmarked Henry John Lias & James Wakely, London 1881. Height measures 3 1/4 inches (8.2 cm), weight 4.02 ozt (125.2 grams).

The mug displays general wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Also general surface marks, scratches and pitting. A seam line is visible on the side where the handle joins the main body. Residues of polish. The engraved decoration appears in overall good condition. The hallmarks are a little rubbed and the maker's mark partly distorted, but all still legible.
