Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver snuff box, the rounded rectangular form ornately engraved throughout with flowers and scrolling foliage, the hinged lid with personal presentation engraving and opening to a gilded interior. Hallmarked Alfred Taylor, Birmingham 1857. Length measures 3 1/4 inches (8.2 cm), weight 2.01 ozt (62.5 grams).


'Presented to Mr John Gordon in appreciation of his services as Precentor in James's U.P Church. Dundee June 20th 1864.'

Appears in good overall condition, displaying some light surface wear and tarnishing. Also general surface marks and scratches and a couple of minor dints to corners and ends. Decoration in good condition. The hinged lid appears in good working order and sits well. Gilding to the interior is a little faded. The hallmarks are slightly rubbed but still legible.
