Lot Description
A late Victorian silver vesta case, the oblong curved form embossed with foliate motifs surrounding a cartouche with personal inscription, hallmarked London Import 1890, maker's mark H. W, length measures 5.3 cm. Together with two further silver vesta cases, both with engine-turned decoration and engraved central cartouches, one with chamfered edges, hallmarked Birmingham 1914 and 1920, and a silver matchbox holder the engine-turned form initialled, hallmarked Birmingham 1936. Gross weight 4.2 ozt (132. 5 grams). (4).

Condition Report
In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Minor dent to the reverse of the Victorian example, some loss of definition to the embossed decoration, engraved with 'W. H from V. P', London import mark for 1890. Some loss of definition to the engine-turned examples, cartouches initialled with further 'MM' engraved to the hinged lid of one, strikers rubbed and worn. Vesta case hinges in working order, although the chamfered edge example does not sit fully flush. Match box is engraved with ' E G O B' with heavier area of tarnishing and heat discolouration to one corner, the hinge in working order but the clasp does not lock. Hallmarks clear and legible.
