Lot 929

Lot Description

An imposing Victorian mahogany library bookcase. Of five-section inverted breakfront design, the upper stage having a moulded cornice over five arch-glazed doors, each enclosing four adjustable shelves, separated by carved scrolls and pendants over panelled pilasters, the lower stage with conforming pilasters flanking three central glazed cabinets with single shelf, between unusual 'trompe l'oeil' ends with encased truncated book spines to the doors, each enclosing three drawers with flush-fitted brass handles, all upon plinth base, 112.5" x 19.5" x 96" high, (286cm x 49.5cm x 244cm).

Some gapping between end doors and end pilasters - these pin rather than being hinged - may improve when put back together permanently. Some losses around keyholes, a few signs of age/use and would benefit from a little attention, but otherwise in sound unrestored condition.
