Lot Description

A late Georgian gold hardstone cameo novelty charm. Designed as a drum, the hinged lid with hardstone cameo of a putti, the sides with rope-twist highlights, suspended from a belcher-link chain. With original note suggesting item was gifted by a daughter of George III. Diameter 1.7cms. Weight 7.1gms.

<li>Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.



<li>Rope-twist slightly loose to some areas, some dents.

<li>Some bead accents to rope-twist deficient.

<li>Hardstone cameo has chip to the item the putto is holding aloft, possibly a conch shell.

<li>Cameo surround with holes, presumably for further rope-twist accents, deficient.

<li>Hinge to lid is slightly loose.

<li>Possible replacement chain. Connecting loop to chain is base metal.

<li>Interior with discolouration.

<li>Accompanying note reads: Given to Charlotte Anne Legge given by one of the dau's of George III circ 1815 to 1820.
