Lot 431

Lot Description

An early twentieth century silver sovereign case, the plain circular form personally engraved and opening to an engine-turned sprung centre, hallmarked Dennison Watch Case Co., Birmingham 1913. Together with a late Victorian silver vesta case with foliate scroll engraving throughout and central monogrammed panel, hallmarked Horton & Allday, Birmingham 1898, and a plated snuff box in the shape of a mussel. Gross silver weight 59 grams. (3).

Total lot weight: No

The sovereign holder and vesta case both appear in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches and also some tarnishing. There is some rubbing and slight loss of detail to the engraved decoration on the vesta case. Hinges and clasps to both appear in good working order. Hallmarks are clear and legible. The snuff box is in quite a tarnished state and would benefit from a clean and polish. The plating appears worn to some areas and the base metal is showing through.
