Lot Description

A late Victorian silver vesta case, of typical form with enamelled personal inscription, hallmarked George Unite & Sons, Birmingham 1898, maximum length measures 5.2 cm. Together with a silver sovereign case with engraved monogram, hallmarked Chester 1887, maker's mark indistinct, plus a silver plated card holder with dual opening and applied enamelled Royal Military College arms. Gross weighable silver 1.5 ozt (47.4 grams). (3).

In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Each item is heavily tarnished and require a polish. The vesta case shuts fully flush, the hinge and clasp in good working order, the enamel inscription which reads  'C. G. O. From F. B. W. 1898' is in good condition with some subtle surface scratches, striker is clean and the suspension loop present.  The spring loaded interior of the sovereign case is functioning, the hinge and clasp in good working order, minor dint to the exterior edge. The monogram possibly reads 'C J B'. Some loss of definition to the enamel arms on the card holder, remnants of polish visible, interior lining has some minor stains. Hallmarks clear and legible, apart from the maker's mark on the sovereign case which is indistinct and the marks on the card holder which are rubbed.
