Lot Description

A George III silver mounted wine coaster by Hester Bateman, the circular form raised on a turned wooden base, swag engraving interspersed with crest engraved and later pierced medallions, between a pierced border and further beaded rim. Hallmarked Hester Bateman, probably London 1784. Diameter measuring 4 3/4 inches (12 cm).

The wine coaster displays general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing. Numerous minor dints to the bottom rim. Slight split to the seam. Three of the medallions/cartouche appear to have been later pierced-out. Green replacement felt to the underside. Wood discoloured. Hallmarks significantly worn - almost completely erased.
