Lot Description

A George V silver christening mug, the plain tapered body with high arch scroll handle, the whole raised upon a stepped footed base, hallmarked London 1915, maker's mark indistinct, height measures inclusive of handle 3 7/8 inches (9.8 cm). Together with a silver and enamel St John's Ambulance fob, personally engraved to the reverse, hallmarked Alexander Clark & Co Ltd., Birmingham 1922, etc. Gross weighable silver 3 ozt (95.9 grams).

In poor to fair condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The mug has various dents and bumps to the body with heavier tarnishing to the edges and significant compression to the interior from the footed base. Hallmarks clear and legible, maker's mark indistinct. The fob is engraved 'London & North Western Railway. Centre of St John Ambulance Assoc' to the obverse and 'Awarded to Walter W. Burton for passing 12 examinations in first aid 1922' to the reverse. Snake bangle in need of attention, splits to the metal with visible repairs, also twisted out of shape.
