Lot Description

A 1930's silver mounted table cigarette box, the plain rectangular form having a sloped hinged lid with engine-turned decoration and Art Deco style motifs, opening to a wood lined interior with single dividing panel. Hallmarked Jay, Richard Attenborough Co Ltd., Chester 1936. Length measuring 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm).

The box displays some quite heavy general wear and tarnishing with surface marks, scratches and several dints and bumps. A fairly large split in the metal to a corner of the lid. A couple of smaller splits visible. The engine turned decoration is quite rubbed and worn in places. Hinged lid in working order, however a gap remains when in the closed position. General wear to the wood interior and two loose wood pieces. The maker's mark and some of the hallmarks are very rubbed but still legible.
