Lot Description

A French wine taster of circular form, lower body embossed with shell motif and half dimpled with trailing grapevines between four bosses, the shaped thumb-rest handle engraved 'Bonjus De Trellie Fera Merville' above town scene. French assay marks including Minerva guarantee mark and maker's mark MF?. Length inclusive of handle 4 2/8 inches (10.3 cm), weight 2.43 ozt (75.69 grams).

In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Minerva guarantee mark to the body and thumb-rest, alongside maker's mark MF? Other French assay marks worn and partly illegible. Some loss of definition to the engraved handle and embossed decoration with crude solder visible to handle, probably as made.
