Lot 421

Lot Description

A pair of mid-eighteenth century silver sugar nips of scissor form with personally initialled hinge and shell bowls. Hallmarks visible as the lion passant and partial maker's mark. Length measuring 12 cm) weight 29.6 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The sugar nips appear quite tarnished throughout and would benefit from a clean and polish. General surface marks, scratches and nicks consistent with age and use. There is a repair at the base of one of the wavy stems. They do appear to be in working order and in fairly good alignment, however both stems do appear to lean over to one side slightly. One of the finger rings is very slightly misshapen. The hinge is initialled A R. Each finger ring struck with a lion passant and maker's mark, both are rubbed and distorted and the maker's marks are illegible.
