Lot 481

Lot Description

A late Victorian silver playing card case, the rectangular form bright-cut engraved throughout with foliate scrolls, having a small vacant cartouche to the front and the hinged lid opening to a twin compartment interior. Hallmarked Birmingham 1900, maker probably Arthur Fenwick. Measuring 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) by 2 1/2 inches (6.3 cm), gross weight 4.19 ozt (130.6 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The case displays general wear, tarnishing and some surface marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Heavier staining and marks to interior and would benefit from a clean. Some edge nicks and a few small knocks and dints to the base, especially around rim. Bright cut engraving is generally still good. Hinged lid appears in working order, although a slight gap remains when in closed position. Hallmarks clear and legible including part hallmarks to lid.
