Lot Description

An early Victorian silver table snuff box by Nathaniel Mills, the oblong form with cross-hatched engraved body and surround to the previously engraved cartouche and reeded edge, the hinged cover opening to a silver-gilt interior, hallmarked Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham 1847, length measuring 8.7 cm. Together with a further Victorian snuff box with presentation inscription to the interior, 'George Pennymore Esqre on his leaving The Coldstream Guards. Capt Honble H.W. Campbell.', hallmarked Edward Edwards II, London 1841, length measuring 7.5 cm. Gross weight 6.4 ozt (202 grams). (2).

Both display general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. A presentation inscription to the cover of the first example has been almost completely erased, the interior looks to have been recently re-gilded, also with large solder repairs to the corners (more visible from the interior). Both display rubbing with loss of decoration. Hallmarks are clear and legible.
