Copeland Family Provenance: A small group of ceramics. Comprising: an 18th century Chinese export helmet-shaped jug, with channel-moulded broad rim over inverted bell-shaped body and bamboo handle, Copeland family collection label beneath A.G.C. 664 (for A. Gresham Copeland), 4.75", (12cm) to top of handle;, decorated with landscape scenes, on domed foot, another helmet jug, produced in Copeland New Stone in 1957 for the Jamestown Festival 350th Anniversary, label A.G.C. 584; and an interesting duo of octagonal plates, the first Spode Stone China, with polychrome hand-painted centre depicting a chinoiserie figure on a punt beside building, within transfer-printed and overpainted border, label verso A.G.C. 826 (as above), with Stoke-on-Trent Museums loan labels, and a Chinese export porcelain example (riveted), seemingly the inspiration for the first, initialled AGC verso and annotated to label "As Spode pattern 2372 painted centre, printed Grasshopper border. Compleatly [sic] handprinted Chinese matching by Spode? See Hayden page 150 also Robert Copeland page 127.", (a/f), (4).
