Lot 161

Lot Description

A good Chinese porcelain wucai quatrefoil box and cover. Both sections enamelled with two dragons amongst peony, each part with projecting rim having polychrome 'greek key' decoration, bears underglaze blue six-character mark beneath for Wanli, (1572-1620) within parallel borders, 6.25" square x 3" high, (16cm x 7.5cm).

Total lot weight: No

Minor rubbing to cover. Small flake loss to unglazed rim of lower section, barely noticeable when cover is on.

Sold with a softwood travel box having 20th century Chinese label referencing Jiaqing, (1796-1820).

Label to wooden box is apparently post-1950 due to use of some simplified characters, thus may not necessarily be original to the porcelain box.

Provenance - private overseas (not Chinese) collection.
