Lot Description
An early 19th century inlaid mahogany-cased 8-day brass dial longcase clock. Samuel Collings (Collins), Thornbury, circa 1820, the 12-inch break-arched dial with Arabic quarters framing silvered circular centre having Roman hours with subsidiary seconds dial and terrestrial calendar crescent flanking signature 'S. Collings Thornbury' in cursive script, within bird and scroll spandrels, the arch with rolling moon phase entitled 'THE MOONS AGE' over hemispheres each engraved with a ship, the knopped four-pillar movement rack-striking on a bell, the case with swan-neck pediment and engraved brass finial depicting Father Time with scythe, over inlaid frieze, Corinthian columns, carved long trunk door within inlaid surround and fluted canted corners, and inlaid carved base on bracket feet, 96", (244cm) high.

Dial - VGC.
Movement - appears sound; not tested and sold as seen. Sold with two weights, pendulum and wooden-handled crank winder.
Case - Small losses to back edges of hood moulding. One column loose at top. Tight cracks to side of cavetto throat moulding. Minor scuffs to top of base but overall sound. Carving could be later?
