Lot Description

An early 20th century silver and gold, cultured pearl and diamond brooch. The old and rose-cut diamond, pierced leaf, with central cultured pearl highlight. Estimated total old-cut diamond weight 1 to 1.50cts. Length 4cms. Total weight 16.4gms.

<li>Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.

<li>Brooch with later alterations, signs of soft solder visible to reverse and near pin.

<li>Diamonds fairly well matched.

<li>Diamonds fairly bright.<p>

<li>Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight estimation.

<li>Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.<p>

<li>Cultured pearl is a creamy white colour, with rose and greenish overtones, in good condition with minor abrasions.<p>

<li>Without the aid of laboratory equipment, it has not been possible to determine if the cultured pearl is from a fresh or saltwater source.

<li>Cultured pearl estimated diameter 7.5mms.

<li>Chevron shape surmount electronically tests as 12ct gold.

<li>Brooch pin electronically tests as 14ct gold.

<li>Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.

<li>Fellows does not guarantee the standard of gold or platinum unless an item is hallmarked. Results from electronically tested items should only be used as a guide and with caution, as false readings are possible.
