Lot Description
A mid Victorian 18ct gold, enamel and gem-set snake necklace. The split pearl and blue enamel quatrefoil locket, suspended from the similarly-set snake head and graduated snake-link chain. Length 45cms. Weight 33.7gms.

<li>Overall condition good to fair. Surface scratches/wear in keeping with general age and wear.
<li>Locket electronically tests as 9ct gold, weighing approximately 3gms.
<li>Replacement locket, some replacement gems, possible re-enamelling.
<li>Wear to gilt finish.
<li>Small dent and file marks to underside of the snakes head.
<li>Garnets are well matched, deep red, in good condition with minor abrasions.<p>
<li>Split pearls are a creamy white colour, with rose and greenish overtones, in good condition, with some small chips to the surfaces.
<li>Blue enamel is in fair condition, noticeably scratched on the locket.
<li>Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
