Lot Description
A mid Victorian gold gem-set magnifying locket. The cushion-shape ruby, split pearl and circular-shape emerald cluster, set atop the engine-turned case, with hinged compartment opening to reveal a magnifying lens. Length 5.7cms. Total weight 30.2gms.

Condition Report
<li>Overall condition good. Some surface scratches/wear and discolouration in keeping with general age and wear.
<li>Lens is later replacement. Lens inscribed +14.00 to one side and +12.00 to the other.
<li>Lens in good to fair condition with some small scratches.
<li>Ruby possibly foil-back, appears a deep medium pinkish red colour. <p>
<li>Estimated dimensions of ruby 6.6 by 5.2mms, unable to ascertain depth due to setting.
<li>Emeralds are a fairly well matched deep medium green colour.
<li>Split pearls are a slightly discoloured yellowish white colour, with rose and greenish overtones.
<li>Stones in mostly good condition. One emerald significantly chipped. Ruby in good condition with minor abrasions. Split pearls with some crazing and nacre damage.<p>
<li>Estimated dimensions of gem cluster 8.5 by 8mms.
<li>Diameter of lens 2.5cms.
