Lot Description
A Georgian 18ct gold carved bloodstone seal.
Carved with the Coat of Arms of Frederick Michael, Count Palatine of Zweibrucken-Birkenfield (1724-1764).
Length 3cms. 7.9gms.
With fitted D.S. Lavender case.
Seal depicts the coat of arms of Frederick Michael, Count Palatine of Zweibrucken-Birkenfield (1724-1764), father of the future king Maximilian I. Joseph of Bavaria. With the Palatinate Order of St. Hubert, with the motto "In Trav Vast" (secure in the throne).
Frederick Michael was regarded in the courts of Europe as the "most handsome and gallant of his time". He was initially Palatine Field Marshal and later, in his role of Imperial Field Marshal, Commander-in-Chief in the Seven Years war against Frederick the Great.
