This Explorer carries the reference 6150 and is an extremely early example. The Explorer was launched in 1953 to celebrate Edmond Hillary and Tensing Norgay's ascension of Mount Everest. It is believed that Tensing Norgay wore a prototype of this watch while completing that ascent. The 6150 reference was the first Explorer model to have the Mercedes hands which has become part of the Explorer's DNA and one of the first to have the iconic black dial with the luminous batons as well as the Arabic numeral three, six and nine. It's believed that only some of the 6150 reference had 'Explorer' wording on the dial, some of these model reference had the script 'Precision' at six o'clock instead.
