This historic Omega pocket watch was used by referee, Mr. Jack Taylor, to time the 1974 World Cup final between West Germany v Netherlands in Munich. The match was delayed as Mr. Jack Taylor had spotted that the corner flags had been removed for the tournament's closing ceremony. He then ordered them to be put back in. Famously, the watch was used to time the quickest ever penalty in World Cup final history. In the first minute Johan Cruyff went on a run for the Netherlands and was brought down in the Germany penalty area. From the resulting penalty Johan Neeskens scored, all before any German player had even touched the ball. Mr. Jack Taylor has stated after the penalty was award to the Netherlands, Franz Beckenbauer, the legendary German captain approached him and said 'Taylor, you're an Englishman'!

The watch has come from the family of Mr. Jack Taylor. Mr. Jack Taylor was a referee for 33 years, taking charge of more than 1,000 games all over the world. Taylor was inducted into the FIFA Hall of Fame on 1 February 1999 in Barcelona. On 25 September 2013, he became the first referee inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. However, the 1974 World Cup Final was, arguably, the most important match he officiated.
