Lot Description

A mid 19th century gold carved coral cameo brooch, with matching earrings, each with carved coral rose and cannetille surround.

Length of brooch 4.7cms. Length of earrings 5cms. 23.2gms.
With fitted 'Achille Aquadrilli, Strada Della Pace N.7, Napoli' case.
Coral untested for natural colour origin.

<li>Surface marks. Small marks/dents to the reverse of each main panel. General slight discolourations. General dirt.
<li>Earrings have been altered, no longer fitted to the case.
<li>One coral rose deficient from an earring.
<li>Glue visible to some coral.
<li>Coral untested for natural colour origin.
<li>Coral appear a fairly well matched medium to slightly deep medium orange.
<li>Brooch cameo carved to depict a Bacchante, with grape and vine. One vine leaf with minor loss. One rose petal with minor frits.
<li>Brooch cameo estimated dimensions 29.5 by 18.5mms.
<li>Earring cameos each carved to depict a woman with laurel crown, probably Hera.
<li>Earrings with hook fittings for pierced ears. Length of earring main panel 2.9cms.
<li>Main panels electronically test as approximately 17-17.5ct gold. Wires electronically test as approximately 21ct gold. Replacement fittings electronically test as approximately 13ct gold.
<li>Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
