Lot Description
A pair case pocket watch by George Etherington. Tortoiseshell with white metal decoration outer case, white metal inner case engraved N.B. Outer case width 53mm, inner case width 45mm. Signed key wind full plate fusee and chain movement with verge escapement, pierced balance cock and tulip pillars. Silver dial with Roman numeral hour markers, outer Arabic numeral minute track.
George Etherington is listed as working in London between 1684 to 1729 and its believed that this example date around c.1690-1700. There is an example of his work in the British Museum.

Movement is currently functioning.
Movement has scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with general wear visible to the naked eye.
Dial appears to be in an average condition with some light marks and scratches when viewed under a 4x loupe.
Hands show noticeable marks and tarnishing.
Glass shows scratches and marks
Inner case shows scratches, marks and dints. Outer case has significant losses to tortoiseshell.
Hinges appear intact with some evidence of repair.
