Lot Description
An 18th century portrait miniature depicting King Louis XVI of France, signed Montpetit, with 18ct gold enamel surround and base metal mount, suspended from a snake ouroboros loop.
The later fitted case with the arms of Charles Ferdinand d'Artois, Duke of Berry and his wife Maria-Caroline.
Portrait surround with French assay mark.
Diameter 7.9cms. 62.4gms.
The Duke of Berry was the grandson of Louis XVI of France, assassinated in 1820 while attending the Paris Opera by Louis Pierre Vouvel, a Bonapartist.

Surface scratches and minor marks.
General, varied dirt and discolourations.
Very minimal paint loss to the edge of the portrait.
Case shows three cracks/splits to the rim of the lid, small losses to the red leather and wear to the velvet.
