Lot Description

A late 19th century silver and gold old and rose-cut diamond tiara, convertible to a necklace.

Estimated total old-cut diamond weight 11cts, H-tinted colour, VS2-P1 clarity.
French assay marks.
Length as a necklace 38cms. Length of central drop/tiara height 3cms.
Weight as a necklace 52.3gms.
With later Tiffany & Co. pouch.

General scratches, small marks and varied dirt and discolouration/tarnish.
Later safety chain at necklace clasp.
Diamonds appear bright and moderately well matched.
Principal three diamonds estimated:
2cts, L-M colour, P1 clarity.
1.15cts, H-I colour, VS2-SI1 clarity.
1.05cts, J-K colour, SI2-P1 clarity.
Rose-cut diamond cut, size and setting prevents accurate weight, colour and clarity assessment.
One rose-cut diamond deficient.
Two rose-cut diamond cracked, few with small nicks/chips.
One old-cut diamond with chip at the girdle extending into the pavillion facets.
Few single-cut diamond replacements.
Ten of the mid-length drops (five to each side) have jump rings to the middle of the reverse.
Associated bar brooch mount, length 7cms, 4.9gms, apprently unmarked. Brooch fittings unscrew.
Approximate length of tiara 22.8cms, width 12.1cms. Tiara mount weight 20gms.
Tiara mount yellow metal with French makers mark LV with a star and crescent moon.
Electronically tests to tiara mount as silver and approximately 18ct gold.
Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
