Lot Description

A 17th century gold ruby, pearl and enamel jewel, comprising a basket, suspended from a floral spacer and bow surmount.

Length 10cms. 13.9gms.
Pearls untested for natural origin.

Varied scratches and small dents/marks.
Component deficient to the top of the centre of the bow.
Two strands of seed pearls are deficient to the central floral panel.
One pearl drop deficient to one side of the central floral panel.
Pearls and seed pearls untested for natural origin.
Pearls and seed pearls appear cream through silvery hues, varied dirt and discolouration, semi-baroque through baroque.
Rubies are in closed, presumed foil back settings and appear a slightly through moderately purplish red. Moderate abrasions.
Enamel variously damaged, notably to the petals of the flower at the centre of the bow.
Enamel petals to central bow flower appear set on silver/white metal.
Electronically tests to reverse of bow and floral panels as approximately 17ct gold.
Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
