Caterpillar club brooches are given out informally to people whose lives have been saved by the use of a parachute in emergency situations. The caterpillar club was formed in 1922, and individuals of all nationalities are eligible. Parachute users when bailing out of a disabled aircraft are eligible for a caterpillar club brooch.
