Murrle Bennett & Co. is a wholesale jewellery company which opened in London as Siegele & Bennett in 1884 by Ernst Mürrle and J.B. Bennett. The firm was renamed Murrle Bennett & Co. in 1891 and advertised as 'manufacturers and importers of British and Foreign jewellery also at 39 Bleich-Strasse, Pforzheim'. In 1916 the firm was purchased, and the business continued at the same address under the name White, Redgrove & Whyte.
The company is widely known for their production of Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts style jewellery and has worked with renowned craftsmen such as Archibald Knox, and Theodore Fahrner.
Murrle Bennett & Co. and their Artists
Theodor Fahrner (4 August 1859 – 22 July 1919) was a trained steel engraver and jewellery designer from Pforzheim, Germany. He was known for his Art Nouveau pieces, produced at affordable prices. After his death, his firm became one of the best-known Art Deco designers.
Archibald Knox (9 April 1864 – 22 February 1933), was a Manx designer of Scottish descent. His design talent covered a wide range of objects including silverware and pewterware, jewellery, inkwells, boxes, gravestones, watercolours, graphic designs, calligraphy, a house design, fonts and even bank cheques.
