Condition Report
- Case - 28cm x 22cm x 15cm
- The left mount escutcheon has been pinned down and the right is upside down, both are likely replacements.
- The frets at the side are unusual and poor quality
- The metal mounts to the front are a different colour to the dial and so likely replacements.
- The cords have been replaced.
- The verge escapement has been restored.
- The wooden piece the clock sits upon is a replacement and the very base has old holes which do not configure with the base, this would suggest the case and movement are a marriage
- Strikes on a bell
- Quarter repeating work has been substantially replaced.
- The metal finish is bright however the gearing is nicely made.
- Bell standard replaced
- Likely not cleaned for some time
- Underdial has been restored
- The bell has been replaced (there should be a 'pork-pie' bell)
- Difficult to determine if the hands are original, but they have not been broked and are the quality expected.
- Glass likely original.
- Case has small dents and scuffs
- Included is a small folio of correspondence from the late 1960s and early 1970s from Mr Baker to various restorers seeking advice on its restoration "I have had another of my doses of fantastic luck - a Joseph Knibb bracket clock figurateivley fell in to my lap. Mr R A Lee suggests you may be able to help in the restoration of it, so I am writing to ask if you would be willing to undertake this, by remote control as it were. I need ornaments for the case, a minute hand, backcock, pendulum holdfast, as there are six vacant holes in the front plate, any parts that might be missing there, I scads of advice!"
- Please note that the internal mechanisms and parts contained within this item are not inspected and therefore not known if complete, damaged or inoperable
- This clock has come from a restorer and so it should be considered that they may have elements of restoration to either the case or movement, that have not been detected and so viewing is strongly recommended
- Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
