Lot Description

A George III silver pair cased verge pocket watch, the white enamel dial with black Arabic numerals and gilt hands, the cases hallmarked London 1796, the verge movement with a foliate pierced and engraved balance cock and foot, silvered regulation dial and round pillars, signed Ja Staples Odiham, the inner case back with personal engraving. Case diameter 52mm

The case has tarnished with a couple of small dents to the case back near the hinge, the release button is missing, the hinge is ok, the inner case has marks, knocks and scratches, there is evidence of a repair near to the key hole in the form of a plug/rivet. The movement is reasonably clean, there is wear to the screw heads, and will run when wound but would benefit from a service. There is small segment missing from the opening lip of the front bezel, the dial has four faint hairlines spreading out from the centre, the hour hand has snapped about half way along. The crystal has lots of surface marks and scratches.
