Lot 438

Lot Description

George III silver snuff box of oblong shape, the hinged lid engraved with a single initial within a wide border of Greek key pattern and opening on one side to reveal a gilded interior, with conforming decoration to the underside and further stipple engraved line borders to the sides.  Hallmarked Joseph Willmore Birmingham 1812.  Measuring 63mm by 25mm, weight 27.8 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The box displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  There are some minor nicks in the metal and a couple of small dints.  The engraved decoration is generally okay, although there is a little bit more wear to the four corners.  There are some contact marks to the gilded interior.  The hinged lid is in working order and the box does close tightly.  Hallmarks are slightly rubbed but still clear and legible.
