Lot 601

Lot Description

A rare mid 19th century Austrian brass strut clock with automaton by Adolf Uhlig, Vienna (active 1833-1858). Having a white-enamelled oval Roman dial with minute band, inscribed "ADOLF UHLIG IN WIEN", with moon hands, between a pair of finely-worked cherub automata, each standing atop a pedestal with articulated raised arm striking a hammer against a bell, the chain-driven verge fusee movement with foliage scroll-pierced balance cock and silvered Avance/Retard wheel, the case with bevelled oval glazing and fine foliate-engraved hinged bezel, fixed rear panel and pinned easel strut support, 4.75", (12cm) high excluding handle.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Dial - chipped around winding square and over XII.

Movement - appears sound but sold as seen - back has been professionally removed to photograph and catalogue movement. Back in not hinged/easily removable, is accessed by removing dial and so has been left for viewing in disassembled state, buyer to rebuild.

Case - Exhibits previous (futile) attempts to gain access around rear panel. Later top-winder. Otherwise good quality.

Fellows do not guarantee the working order or accuracy of any clocks sold.
