Lot Description

An early Victorian mahogany wheel barometer by A. Gilardoni, Bristol, circa 1840. Having an 8" circular main dial with engraved centre, the ebony and boxwood chequer-strung trunk with swan-neck pediment over later hygrometer, Fahrenheit and Centigrade ethanol thermometer, the spirit level stamped A. GILARDONI, BRISTOL, 38. 25", (97cm) high, A similar barometer is illustrated in Edwin Banfield, BAROMETERS Wheel or Banjo, p. 94. A. Gilardoni is recorded by Banfield as working from 6 Nicholas Street, Bristol circa 1830-50.
