Lot Description
Nineteenth century Russian silver snuff box of rectangular form, decorated in niello with scrolling foliage to the hinged cover and underside and with criss cross patterns to the sides, the cover opening to reveal engraved monograms to the inside of the lid. Struck with Assay mark and date, possibly for Andrei Kovalsky 1856, also with 84 in a punch and two further marks. Measuring 7.5 cm by 3.5 cm, weight 80.4 grams.

Condition Report
Box displays general wear and surface marks and scratches. More wear to edges and corners and considerable loss of detail to the scroll decoration to the top and bottom but also to various areas of the criss cross decoration around the sides. Small triangular section missing from the front of the lid and some further damage along the top edge and to one of the front corners. Hinges are in working order, however the hinge pin is visible at both the corners. Marks are to the interior, there is some distortion but they are still legible.
