George III provincial wine funnel & modern example.

Lot Description
George III provincial silver wine funnel of plain form and reeded borders, missing sieve, hallmarked Newcastle, date and maker's mark illegible, height measuring 6 inches (15 cm). Together with a modern silver wine funnel, hallmarked Birmingham 1990, height measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm). Gross combined weight 4.6 ozt (145 grams). (2).

Condition Report
Both wine funnels display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The Georgian example displays some minor dints and bumps, a crease around the narrowing of the bowl and missing sieve. The hallmarks to the Georgian example are extremely worn, tip of the maker's mark just visible, part passant and leopards head visible, three castle mark extremely rubbed tip just visible, duty mark rubbed, no date letter visible. The hallmarks to the modern example are a little rubbed but clearly legible.
