Lot Description

A selection of four George III and later silver sugar tongs, to include a fiddle back pair with shell bowls, monogrammed, hallmarked Robert Gordon, Edinburgh 1844, together with a silver plated lobster pick with carp engraving. Gross weighable silver 4.58 ozt (142.5 grams).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The lot also includes a pair of plated sugar tongs, the plate is worn, discoloured, dents and staining. The silver plated lobster pick shows moderate wear to the plating. All the silver tongs are monogrammed bar one of the plain pair. Two of the Georgian pairs are a slightly thinner gauge, slightly bendy. Bright-cut engraving is crisp. Georgian examples hallmarked except the town assay, believed to be London, Thomas Wilkes Barker 1806, Thomas Wallis II 1800 and George Wintle 1810.
