Lot Description

Late Victorian silver cased set of four open salts, each of circular form with everted petal shaped rim embossed with foliate motifs and with conforming foliate detail to the raised centre, with four plain salt spoons each with ball terminal.  Hallmarked William Devenport, Birmingham 1898 (spoons 1899). Combined weight 1.4 ozt (43.4 grams).

Salts and spoons all display general wear, some tarnishing and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  There are also remnants of polish visible, especially on the salts.  Some deeper scratches to some areas and minor nicks and surface dints.  The very thin stems of the salt spoons are a little bent in places.  Hallmarks are mainly legible.  The case is very damaged and is now in two pieces.
