Lot Description
George III silver entree dish by Philip Rundell, of lobed circular form, scrolling foliage and shell rim, crested to each side. Hallmarked Philip Rundell London 1820. Diameter measuring 10 1/2 inches (27 cm), weight 26.6 ozt (830 grams).
Philip Rundell (1746 - 1827) took over his master's shop in approximately 1785, John Bridge became his partner shortly thereafter. In 1805, he also joined forces with his nephew and the firm became known as Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. The business became exceptionally successful, and attracted talented artisans, including the renowned silversmith Paul Storr, and sculptors William Theed and John Flaxman. In 1819, Storr left the manufactory and Rundell, for the first time, registered his own mark, which he used until his retirement in 1823.

The dish display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Numbered 2 to the inner rim. Debris to the recesses of the rim. The hallmarks are clear and legible, maker's mark partly rubbed.
