Lot Description

Victorian silver card case of shaped rectangular form, with strap work style decoration to both sides enclosing foliate and flower head motifs, further floral sprays to the reverse and central vacant gilded cartouche to the front, with flat bead border decoration to the scrolled edge.  Hallmarked  Aston & Son (Thomas Aston & William Aston), Birmingham 1858.  Measuring 4 inches (10 cm) by 2 3/4 inches (7 cm), weight 2.15 ozt (66.8 grams).

Card case displays general wear, a little tarnishing and general surface marks and scratches, commensurate with age and use.  Deeper scratches visible to some areas, various minor nicks and a couple of minor surface dints.  There is some yellowish discolouration and more wear around the edges and especially to the corners, where there are a couple of notable dints .  Hinged lid is in good working order.  Contact marks to flange.  Hallmarks are a little rubbed but still clear and legible.
